Strong to severe storms are likely Wednesday in central Indiana

On the average, with 4.95″ of rain, June is out wettest month of the year. We’ve had rain on 9 of the first 17 days of the month. 3.61″ of rain has fallen so far and more is on the way. Strong to severe storms are likely Wednesday and the Storm Prediction Center has placed central Indiana under an Enhanced Risk for severe weather. This will come ahead of a cold front with the storms having a moisture-filled environment to feed on. Damaging winds will be our primary threat, but large hail and a tornado or two are still possible throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Up to an inch of rain is likely by the time the rain ends Thursday morning.

In the wake of the frontal system moving through, central Indiana will have some relief from the muggy conditions starting Thursday. The break will be short-lived because the humidity rapidly increases by the weekend along with high temperatures. Expect highs in the mid 80s Friday afternoon. June is off to a mild start so far with temperatures running slightly above average for the month. We are just three days away from the official start to Summer and right on cue a warm up is on the way. The average date for our first 90° high temperature is June 14th, and we’ll have our first 90° day of the year on Saturday. That will be the start of a four-day stretch of 90° days, so our first heatwave of the season is on the way.

The UV Index was in the very high range today.

June has been a cloudy, wet month so far and this has been a wet Spring.

Wednesday will be a warm, humid day and strong to severe storms are likely.

Scattered storms will develop Wednesday afternoon.

Scattered storms will continue Wednesday evening.

Up to 1″ of rain is likely through Thursday morning.

Summer officially starts Friday evening.

Our fist 90° day of the year is on the way.
