VIDEO: Open detonations at Tooele Army Depot

TOOELE ARMY DEPOT, Utah (ABC4) — The Tooele Army Depot hosted an event today showcasing the disposal of old ammunition and explosives.

People along the Wasatch Front may have heard the distant explosions today, but the Army says it’s, most times, the safest way to dispose of outdated or unstable explosives.

“The importance of our demilitarization mission is making sure that uniformed service members and all of the branches of armed service have the most capable and dependable munitions,” said Colonel Luke R. Clover, Commander at Tooele Army Depot

The Army added that Utah’s West Desert is the ideal place for them to store and destroy these weapons due to its stable and dry weather.
