SF’s first women’s sports bar set to open this week

(KRON) – San Francisco’s first women’s sports bar will be opening its doors. Rikki’s has announced the sports bar will be up and running on Wednesday.

The sports bar says the space is “a place to celebrate every game, every tournament, every win and to find each other.” Rikki’s website said the establishment is the only sports bar in the San Francisco Bay Area that is dedicated to celebrating women’s sports and serving the diverse and inclusive women’s sports community.

The sports bar is on Market Street in San Francisco’s Castro district.

The bar’s co-owners, Sara Yergovich and Danielle Thoe, met playing soccer for the San Francisco Spikes. They told KRON4 that they bonded over their struggle to find a bar to watch women’s sports.

“We wanted to open the bar because we were struggling to find reliable places to watch women’s sports in San Francisco,” said Yergovich. “We wanted to have a place where you could come in and know that you can find community and know that you can watch all the amazing women’s sports coming out right now.”

Rikki’s is named after community leader Rikki Streicher, who operated queer and lesbian bars in the city.

Rikki’s opens on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
