Police said the incident unfolded along the tracks in the 1100 block of West Granville Avenue in Edgewater, near the CTA’s Granville station. Officers said an adult male was struck by a Red Line train in the area at around 9 a.m. and was later pronounced dead on the scene.
Authorities did not say what led up to the incident or identify the individual killed. A death investigation was launched.
The incident caused some service disruptions on the Red Line, Purple Line and Purple Line Express trains, with trains halted between Howard and Wilson due to the medical emergency. Trains were operating only between the Wilson and 95th Street stations, but full service has since resumed.
