According to a news release from the museum, visitors are able to come to all Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites locations across the state for free on Saturday, June 21. That day, the museum will host its annual Juneteenth celebration.
This comes as the holiday is recognized federally on June 19 in commemoration of the “effective emancipation of enslaved people” following the Civil War.
In Indianapolis, the Indiana State Museum, located at 650 W Washington St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature performances, vendors and activities centered around the theme “History, Health and the Arts.”
The release said that all three floors of the museum will be open for visitors to explore. The museum will also feature a collaborative abstract mural, performances from dancers, drummers and musicians, as well as exhibits.
