Bugging the Big Country: Termite swarms in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – If you’ve been driving around the Key City today, you might have noticed bugs splattering against your windshield—or maybe a cloud of insects interrupted your walk back to the car from the grocery store. According to Bug Blasters Pest Control, those aren’t just any bugs — they’re swarming termites.

Swarming typically happens in the spring and summer, when termites take to the warm, humid air in search of a place to start new colonies. The good news? NC State Extension Publications says the swarms themselves don’t cause structural damage — that’s the job of the worker termites already inside a colony.

If you notice a swarm near your home, experts recommend contacting a pest control company to check for an infestation and advise you on the best way to eliminate the problem.
