Man sentenced for killing woman during domestic dispute in Jackson

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A man pled guilty in connection to the shooting death of a woman during a domestic dispute in Jackson.

Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens announced that Isaiah McCray pled guilty to second-degree murder.

On May 21, 2023, Jackson police responded to a shooting near Wabash and Ohio Street. They found the victim, 25-year-old TeKayla Cornelius, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A short time later, police determined that McCray had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken into custody and transported for medical treatment.

According to Owens, investigators determined that the fatal shooting followed a domestic argument.

McCray was sentenced to 27 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.
