Anti-ICE protests continue to grow in downtown Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Protests are growing throughout the U.S. against the federal government’s immigration policies as ICE continues to detain asylum seekers in several states, including Oregon.

In Portland, a group has gathered at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement headquarters, camping overnight on Monday and calling for others on social media to join them in a round-the-clock protest.

The group has continued their protest through Tuesday and expects to grow over the coming days. Nearby residents say they support the cause and the protestors rights, but are concerned about safety if the protest becomes a confrontation with law enforcement.

Just before 4 p.m., PPB began attempting to clear the downtown Portland trolley tracks as protesters continued to camp out in the area. No arrests have been made.

Portland Police Chief told KOIN 6 News on Monday that the city will not see a repeat of past protests, though the weekend saw two arrests due to property damage in the area.
Meanwhile, the city is already starting to see plans to join in a series of national rallies this Saturday for what is being called No Kings Day on Trump’s birthday. The rally is expected to gather along the waterfront in downtown Portland.
