The weekend opens with a good deal of sunshine, but clouds will increase noticeably as the afternoon proceeds on Saturday. Daytime hours should stay dry but there will be chances for showers Saturday evening into the Sunday’s predawn hours. Rainfall amounts will be light.
Expect similar temperatures on Saturday afternoon with highs near seasonable levels for most of the area but a northeast lake breeze will continue to keep lakeshore areas in the much cooler 60s compared to areas well inland which could reach the low 80s again.
Even warmer weather returns with many locations topping 80-degrees except for the immediate lakeshore locations.
Conditions will be agreeable for mariners on Lake Michigan this weekend as a fairly light wind regime in the 5-10 mph range will only mean a slight chop with predicted waves in the 1-2 foot range both Saturday and Sunday.
Following minor rain chances Saturday night into early Sunday morning, the next chance for better organized scattered showers and thunderstorms arrives later Sunday toward evening as a cold front approaches from the west.
There is a low end risk for any thunderstorm to be strong or severe with gusty winds being the primary threat.
Rain chances diminish following Sunday’s scattered thunderstorms. Total rainfall is likely to be rather unimpressive with amounts generally less than a half inch which is below the near 1.00” which is needed per week this time of year.
Repetitive thunderstorm clusters along a stationary front will bring huge, 3-6” rainfall totals to portions of southern Oklahoma, northern Texas and southwest Arkansas over the coming week.
Temperatures take a brief dip modestly below normal following Sunday’s low 80s, but the warmth resurges by the middle of next week.
Much of the lower 48 is forecast to be above normal except for the Pacific Northwest and portions of Texas.
The longest 80 degree or warmer spell of 2025 so far is in sight. It begins next Wednesday and continues through at least next weekend.
