JEANERETTE, La. (KLFY) –This week’s 90 Plus highlights Myrtle Toups Clement, 101 of Jeanerette as she reflects on her life, faith and family.

Clement was born and raised in New Iberia but moved to Jeanerette after she got married.

“I had a nice life. Everybody was kind to me, and I had a blessed life as well. I say the rosary a lot. I pray a lot,” Clement stated.

The kitchen was where her family would often come together to enjoy the meals she put her heart and soul into.

“I did a lot of cooking and a lot of baking. That’s a lot of my hard work,” Clement said.

Clement said her husband was a salesman for 40 years. It was a job that allowed her to stay home with their four children.

“I always tell them to always tell the truth and always do the right thing, and you won’t get into any trouble,” Clement said.

Myrtle recalled how she met her soon-to-be husband while going out with her girl friends.

“A niece of mine took us out. There were four girls, and we went and sat there. That’s how I met him. He worked here in town, and I would see him at the store. That’s our life,” she explained.

Myrtle lives in an independent senior living community and is grateful.

“When you don’t have to do anything, you can be satisfied.” Clement said.

Myrtle’s advice for the generations to come.

“Be sociable and pray a lot. I believe in prayer. Pray a lot,” Clement said.
