Construction improvements continue on Brownwood’s Gordon Wood Stadium

BROWNWOOD, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – If you visit Gordon Wood Stadium right now, you will see cranes and steel beams as construction crews build a new recreation center.

The new stadium will feature several upgrades, including new bleachers on both sides, seatback chairs on the home side, a new restroom, and a concession area near the scoreboard. Additionally, an existing restroom under the home stands will be upgraded. However, the press box is not expected to be completed until 2026.

Mitch Moore, the Athletic Director of Brownwood Independent School District, expressed the excitement he and his staff feel about these upgrades.

Brownwood voters approved $16 million improvements to Gordon Wood Stadium during a bond election in 2023.

“It’s exciting, it’s a lot of upgrades the stadium needed. It was built in 1972, and pretty much the footprint has stayed the same since 1972, said Moore.

The school is also adding several upgrades to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. New accessible ramps will be installed on both sides, along with additional handicapped seating.
