HANFORD, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The man accused of killing a man during an argument in Hanford in 2023 was sentenced Thursday, the Kings County District Attorney’s Office said.

The DA’s office said 51-year-old Obbie Lucky Brown was sentenced to 41 years plus 150 years to life in prison for murder and other serious and violent strike offenses.

On Aug. 17, 2023, the Hanford Police Department said they received calls regarding a subject being shot in the 700 block of S. Harris St. Upon arrival to the area, officers reported finding a 46-year-old man lying on the ground on the south side of his home.

According to the DA, it was determined that the victim and Brown had an argument at the victim’s home. The argument escalated when Brown pulled a gun and shot the victim twice, once in the leg and once in the head. The victim succumbed to his injuries.

While fleeing the scene, the DA reports Brown assaulted a nearby civilian with the firearm and attempted to threaten a victim with another firearm.

At trial, the DA’s office said Brown was convicted of first-degree murder that was willful, premeditated and deliberate. Additionally, Brown was also convicted of assault with a firearm and an attempted criminal threat with a firearm. The court found all aggravating factors true as to all charges.
