The Oakland Roots declared former U.S. national team midfielder Benny Feilhaber as the newest head coach through the remainder of the 2025 USL Championship Season on Monday.
“We are excited to have Benny Feilhaber take over through the end of the season,” said Oakland Roots President Lindsay Barenz. “We believe there is still a lot to fight for this season and we believe we have the players to make a strong run into the playoffs.”
Feilhaber has played for the Major League Soccer teams: New England Revolution, Los Angeles Football Club and Sporting Kansas City. He has also played for Hamburg, Derby and Aarhus.
As far as coaching experience, Feilhaber has been an assistant coach for his alma mater UCLA, a Kansas City under-17 coach and the head coach of Sporting KC II.
The football club is currently ranked second-to-last in the West with 3 wins, 1 draw and 7 losses. The team has amassed a total of ten points this season.
Barenz or the team has not confirmed who will take Cormier’s position.
