Driver shot on DLSD near Playpen during road rage dispute: Police

CHICAGO (WGN) — A driver on North DuSable Lake Shore Drive was shot midday Tuesday near the Playpen in an apparent road rage dispute.

The victim, a 32-year-old man, told authorities he was southbound near the 700 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive around 11:30 a.m. and had a conflict with the driver of a black Jaguar SUV. The male driver of the SUV pulled alongside the victim and opened fire, hitting the victim in the elbow, police said.

The victim continued driving and pulled over on the 1500 block of South Wabash Avenue to notify authorities, police said in a release. He was later taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.

Speaking to WGN NEWS from the hospital, the victim said the dispute began when the driver of the Jaguar, whom he didn’t know, cut him off. He said he tried to remain calm after being shot and kept driving until he saw a police vehicle on South Wabash and flagged down an officer.

“All the police start coming from both directions. The ambulance came. The gentleman got out of his car and was sitting on the ground …. and was nursing whatever wounds he had and the paramedics, they loaded him up,” said a witness who said his name was Jaill.

The shooter continued southbound on DuSable Lake Shore Drive, police said.

No other injuries were reported and no one was in custody as of Tuesday afternoon. Area Three detectives are leading the investigation.
