COPIAH COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is investigating a fiery crash that occurred in Copiah County.

The crash occurred on Highway 27 near Camp Lane, south of Georgetown, just after 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 1.

According to MHP, the vehicle involved in the crash appeared to be traveling south when it left the road and collided with a tree. The vehicle caught fire.

The driver was identified as 42-year-old Mary Ellen Hux, of New Hebron. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
