Superior Court of Alameda County warns of unpaid traffic ticket text scam

(KRON) — Oakland residents are being warned to be on the lookout for fake text messages from scammers demanding payments for unpaid traffic tickets.

The Superior Court of Alameda County says the messages appear at first glance to be from the court, but not to fall for it. The court is reminding residents that it does not text the public regarding unpaid traffic citations, financial or personal information.

Anyone who needs to resolve a traffic citation is advised to visit the court’s website at www.alameda.courts.ca.gov and click on “Pay Your Traffic Ticket.”

“The Court has also been made aware of fake City of Oakland parking citations/tickets which appear to be an underground advertising campaign,” said The Superior Court of Alameda County in a news release. “Parking citations/tickets of any kind are administered and processed by the city from which the parking citation/ticket was issued. The Court does not process parking citations/tickets.”

Those with questions about the validity of an issued parking citation or ticket are encouraged to contact the city from which it was issued.
