'The best computer store in the world' set to open first Bay Area location
(KRON) — An Ohio-based computer store chain is opening its first location in the Bay Area. Micro Center is opening this Friday, May 30 in Santa Clara, the company announced in a social media post.

Micro Center will open at 5201 Stevens Creek Blvd., which is located on Santa Clara’s southwest city border. It replaces Bed Bath & Beyond, which closed in 2023.

On its Instagram page, Micro Center calls itself, “The best computer store in the world!” The computer store chain has amassed more than 244,000 followers on Instagram.

Micro Center first announced the Santa Clara store opening in April 2024.

“The Grand Opening of Micro Center Santa Clara is just a week away! Come see us there for Santa Clara Exclusive deals like 20% off of Windows laptops and desktops, along with 20% off monitors,” Micro Center wrote in an Instagram post.

Including the upcoming Santa Clara store, Micro Center currently has 29 stores in the country. The only other store on the West Coast is in Tustin (Southern California).

Micro Center opened its first store in Columbus, Ohio, back in 1979, according to its website. It has since opened stores in 18 additional states.

In 2021, Fry’s Electronics closed all locations nationwide, including Fremont, Sunnyvale and San Jose. Since then, there has been a void of an electronics store in the South Bay not named Best Buy.
