Investigation underway after woman, child found dead in Streamwood overnight
STREAMWOOD, Ill. —  A large police presence was spotted outside of a townhome in the northwest suburbs early Thursday morning after officials say a woman and a child were found dead in the area overnight.

The investigation appeared to be centered around a townhome in the 1600 block of McKool Avenue in Streamwood.

While specific details about the investigation remain unclear, several police departments and the Cook County Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) could be spotted on the scene, walking in and out of the townhome, as they work to piece together what unfolded.

Officials have not yet provided updates on the investigation, but an official from the Cook County Medical Examiners’ Office confirmed to WGN-TV that they had been notified about two deaths in the area.

The medical examiner later confirmed that the victims were a 21-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl, though their identities remain unclear.

A man who lives nearby said he thought he heard gunshots on Wednesday evening.

“I was here in my house around, like, 8:20 there was gunshots and I was wondering what it was. And I finally came outside and I see everything that is happening,” the man said.

Authorities have not yet provided an official update on the situation, though more information on the investigation is expected later in the day.
