BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A viral video shows what can happen when a former LSU Golden Girl marries a former LSU trumpeter.

Ashley McLaughlin and Michael McLaughlin are LSU graduates. They got married at The National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor on May 3, 2025. Wedding content creator Day Of Bestie caught the couple performing a well-known Tiger song at their reception, which happened at The Westin Hotel in New Orleans.

Ashley said that every LSU fan recognizes the first four notes of the tune.

The newly married couple participated in a performance of the song called “LSU Pregame,” which included the down cheers (1st down, 2nd down, and 3rd down).

The show also included around 20 former band members and 12 former Golden Girls, Ashley said.

This performance was something they had done many times before as members of The Golden Band from Tigerland over their four years at LSU. Ashley said they have performed the song more times than they can count.

Michael said he played trumpet in the band from 2018 to 2022, and Ashley was in the Tiger Band from 2017 to 2021. In 2020, Ashley was one of the captains of the LSU Golden Girls.

According to Ashley, this is not the first time that LSU Pregame has been performed at a wedding. She said, “It is a tradition within the Golden Girl world to perform ‘LSU Pregame’ with the other girls at your wedding.”

The former LSU Golden Girl added, “We have done this a dozen times at my friend’s weddings within the last few years.”

The one difference this time is that they did it live instead of using a recording of the song.

Ashley said, “When Michael and I were planning our wedding, we decided it would be so special for them to play it live while we performed it, since Tiger Band was a part of both of our lives and it’s how we met.”

The couple has been together since 2018 after they met with the help of Michael’s older brother, George McLaughlin. George was also in the Tiger Band, and he introduced Michael to Ashley.

As for the response to their viral video, Michael said, “We are shocked at how many views the video has received in such a short amount of time.”

The couple was happy to be able to share their special moment with their closest friends and family. They said it is something they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Along with LSU Pregame, Michael said he and the rest of the band members also performed “Right Above It” by Lil Wayne at the reception.

LSU means a lot to Michael, and he said it has helped create unforgettable memories, and most importantly, it is where he met his wife.

The former LSU trumpeter said, “We are forever indebted, we are forever grateful, and we are Forever LSU.”
