Owner Gloria Hermosillo grew up in Snyder and worked at a local burger joint, where her dream of owning an establishment was born. After moving to Abilene, she decided to take the spatula into her own hands and open her own restaurant, which later became Gloria’s Grill.
27 and a half years later, in 2024, she decided to retire due to family health complications. She said the time spent away made her miss the lunch hour rush.
“We were closed for about 15 months, and we enjoyed it. When we first closed, we just loved it. But after a while, we just got bored,” Hermosillo said. “It’s the same old thing, the same menu, the same people, the same friendly smile, the good hot hamburgers.”
The news broke on social media Thursday, and that is when they saw an influx of residents ready to get their hands on a Gloria’s Grill specialty.
“We knew we would be missed because every time we’re in town, people see us and they all want to know We miss you, we miss you. But God, we never expected it to be like this,” Hermosillo said. “I never thought we were a legacy. I just thought we were a grill, and people came in to eat. I knew we were loved, and I knew we had lots and lots of customers. But man, the extreme. I had no idea.”
The restaurant is planning to open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2.
