Battery storage power system activated in Morgan Hill

(KRON) — The City of Morgan Hill recently activated a new battery power storage and microgrid system at Centennial Recreation Center.

The battery storage system will work in conjunction with the facility’s existing solar system, and provide backup power to the facility during outages.

Chris Ghione, public services director said, “By investing in advanced energy storage technology, we are ensuring that the Centennial Recreation Center can continue to serve as a reliable resource for our community, even during challenging times.”

The City of Morgan Hill obtained two grants to help support the battery project, including one grant from Silicon Valley Clean Energy.

“Over the last several years, Morgan Hill residents were impacted by extended power outages as a result of infrastructure failure,” wrote Monica Padilla, SVCE CEO, “During power outages, the city will be able to use the space as an emergency response center or charging center for first responders.”
