Petition started to save Morgan County Middle School

MORGAN COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — An online petition is gaining traction to save Morgan County Middle School from closing.

Last week, the district released its facilities plan after the Kentucky Department of Education called for cost cuts.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

Under the plan, sixth grade would move to elementary schools, while seventh and eighth grades would shift to high schools — no earlier than 2026.

The plan has been submitted to the Kentucky Department of Education.

At the time of publishing, the petition had reached 1,031 verified signatures.

By keeping Morgan County Middle School open, we preserve an essential community resource that not only educates our children but also strengthens our local community through its role as a gathering place for community events and activities.

We urge the Morgan County Board of Education to reconsider this decision that could dramatically affect the educational landscape and community fabric of West Liberty. Please sign this petition to show your support for our middle school’s continued operation, and advocate for the best interests of our students and community.

A public forum is set for this summer to gather community feedback before the board makes a final decision.
