CHP says around noon they responded to Highway 180 and Del Rey Avenue, just north of Sanger, for a reported fatal vehicle collision.
Investigators reported a 38-year-old woman was traveling in a white Chevrolet Malibu northbound on Del Rey Avenue and entered the westbound lanes of Highway 180. At the same time, a 72-year-old man was driving a Hummer H2 in the No. 2 lane of westbound Highway 180.
CHP reports the Chevrolet was broadsided by the Hummer as it entered the intersection, causing the Chevrolet to swerve northwest— ultimately striking the right-side mirror of a Sanger Police Department BMW motorcycle stationed at the northwest corner.
As a result, officers say the woman in the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Hummer sustained minor injuries, and the motorcycle officer was unharmed. The motorcycle sustained minor damage.
The identity of the deceased woman is pending release, and the crash is actively under investigation.
