Letcher County man charged in connection with 2024 death of Whitesburg woman

COWAN, Ky. (FOX 56) — State police troopers announced on Friday that an arrest was made in connection with a March 2024 death investigation.

Just before 8 p.m. on March 7, 2024, Kentucky State Police (KSP) announced in a news release that troopers with Post 13 in Hazard got a 911 call that a woman had been found unresponsive on Dinah Blair Road in the Cowan community of Letcher County.

When law enforcement got to the scene, 59-year-old Angela Roberts, of Whitesburg, was reportedly found dead.

The Letcher County Coroner’s Office had pronounced Roberts dead at the scene “from an apparent gunshot wound,” state police said.

She had been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort to be autopsied, with results still pending.

On May 23, 2025, troopers announced that 65-year-old Mark Miles of Letcher County was arrested in connection with the investigation.

Miles’ arrest reportedly came shortly after the Letcher Circuit Court issued an indictment warrant for him.
