Shreveport’s Story TellHERS honors women filmmakers May 24-25

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Female filmmakers will be honored in Shreveport for the fourth year with an expanded schedule and new additions.

Story TellHERS, curated by Louisiana native Kristi Woodard of Mahogani Media, returns to the Robinson Film Center on May 24 and 25 to showcase female filmmakers with an emphasis on local women.

While short films have been featured in years past, this year, more filmmakers will have the opportunity to showcase their talent.

On Saturday, May 24, at 11:30 a.m., The Young Filmmaker will spotlight films by directors under 18. It will be followed by a post-screening panel discussion featuring Film Prize Junior winners  Zoë Brown and Chloe Collins.

This year, feature-length films will also be included. “He Only Fell” by Shreveport-based filmmaker and fashion designer Latasha Henderson screens at 2:30 on May 24 and will be followed by a Q&A and discussion with Latasha and Kristi Woodard. At 5 p.m. on May 25, there will be a special 30th anniversary screening of “Clueless.”

Story TellHERS is adding new features but will remain true to the event’s roots. On May 24 at 6:30 p.m., the Senior Showcase features six short films of various genres, followed by a Q&A and discussion led by Kristi Woodard.

The Young Filmmaker Symposium is free. However, you must reserve your spot in advance as seating is limited. All other events have varying ticket prices for students, seniors, military, and general admission.
