NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Congratulations to all the local graduates! Whether your special someone is graduating from college, high school, or even kindergarten, the weekend of May 15 to May 18 features great ways to celebrate. From an outdoor festival on the water to a cocktail experience so haunting, you’ll swear the spirits are real, here are Where Y’at’s weekend picks:
- First, for those graduates over 21, experience a haunting cocktail experience at The Mortuary during the Tales of the Macabre. Part cocktail party and part theatrical production, this show serves up tales from Louisiana folklore enjoyed over delicious mixed drinks, and features vampires, the Rougarou and even Marie Laveau.
- Next, looking for the perfect graduation dinner destination? Then celebrate your graduate at Drago’s Restaurant in Metairie. Their famous charbroiled oysters and expansive menu make Drago’s the perfect spot. In addition, private dining rooms are available for larger groups.
- Starting Friday, May 16, graduates of all ages can head to Bayou St. John for Bayou Boogaloo. With fantastic local food and live music from the Honey Island Swamp Band, James Andrews and many others, you can even take a float out onto the waters for a unique festival experience.
- Finally, on Saturday, May 17 celebrate the eighth anniversary of Port Orleans Brewing Company, with live music by the Steve Mignano Band, hot boiled crawfish and even a bounce house for the kids. There’ll also be three new Port Orleans beers to try, including Salted Watermelon Sour.
