New fire chief for Win-Bur-Sew fire department

WINNEBAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — The Win-Bur-Sew Fire Protection District on Wednesday announced Charlie Cunningham as the department’s new Fire Chief.

Cunningham is a fourth generation Win-Bur-Sew Chief officer, following “in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, Assistant Chief Robert Cunningham (15 years), his grandfather, Chief Warren Cunningham (46 years), and his father, Deputy Chief Guy Cunningham (36 years), along with many other family members who have served.”

A graduate of Winnebago High School, he interned as a firefighter/paramedic with the Town of Madison Fire Department and was hired by the City of Beloit Fire Department in 2008.

During that time, he volunteered with the Win-Bur-Sew fire department.

He has also served as a member of WI Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue and is on the Board of Directors for the Southern Wisconsin Northern Illinois Fire Rescue Association (SWNIFRA).

“It is my sincere honor to carry on the family tradition of service to this community and to the members of the Win-Bur-Sew Fire District,” Cunningham said.
