ACADIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) — A man who shot at police was arrested in Acadia Parish after police used a drone to assist during a standoff, authorities said.

Robert Wayne Deane II, 48, from Lafayette is charged with four counts of aggravated assault upon peace officers, criminal trespassing and aggravated illegal use of a weapon.

According to authorities, at around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to claims that Deane was trespassing and making threats on Country Village Road in the Egan community.

Police said when they approached a wooded area where Deane had set up a camp, he fired four
shots.

Police then set up a perimeter and attempted to make contact with Deane. After a short period of time, a drone was used to help establish contact. Deane removed himself from the area without further incident.

Deane was booked into the Acadia Parish jail. His bond has been set at $60,000.
