28-year-old man struck and killed by CTA Blue Line train Saturday night after falling onto tracks in Logan Square, police say

CHICAGO — A 28-year-old man was struck and killed by a CTA Blue Line train after he fell onto the tracks Saturday night on the city’s Northwest Side, according to Chicago police.

Blue Line train service has been restored to normal Sunday morning, CTA says, after it was suspended between Montrose and Western Milwaukee just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday due to what CTA called a “medical emergency” on the tracks at Logan Square.

In an update later Saturday night, police said officers and Chicago Fire Department personnel responded to a service call around 8:15 p.m. Saturday in the 2600 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, where a 28-year-old man had stumbled and fell onto the CTA Blue Line tracks as the train was arriving at the station.

Police said the man was struck by the train and pronounced dead at the scene, but they did not give any details as to how or why he may have stumbled and fallen onto the tracks.

The train operator was taken to an area hospital for observation, according to police, and Area Three detectives are investigating.
