Bicyclist killed, driver sought in Visalia hit-and-run: VPD

VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A bicyclist was struck and killed Saturday night, leaving law enforcement to track down the driver of the vehicle who struck him before leaving the scene, Visalia police say.

A traffic collision was reported on Akers Street, just south of Judy Avenue, around 9:45 p.m.

Officers arriving at the scene say they found a bicycle and its injured rider in the roadway, but not the vehicle involved.

At that time, the 53-year-old rider was transported to Kaweah Health for treatment of his serious injuries.  However, investigators say, he died Sunday morning.

Police continue to investigate this case and locate the vehicle that collided with the victim.

If anyone has information about its whereabouts, or that of the driver, they are urged to call Visalia Police Department’s Traffic Unit at 559-713-4037.
