“This is just a good group. It’s a fun group to be a part of,” Lewis said. “They practice hard and play for each other. There’s a genuine love and excitement for each other when something goes right. They genuinely love each other and play hard for each other. It’s been fun to watch.”
Lewis’ leadership has helped Slidell, a No. 19 seed in the Division I Non-Select playoff field, pull off upset wins in the postseason against No. 14 Zachary and No. 3 Northwood.
“We haven’t flinched when bad things have happened,” Lewis said. “We just keep playing ball. So that’s a blessing.”
Key Tiger players, like Brayden Calamari and pitcher Troy Green, say the impact their coach has had is clear.
“Coach Lewis has a big influence on all of us,” Calamari said. “He bonds with all of us and gives life and baseball lessons. He’s a good coach, knows what he is doing and knows how to have fun.”
“He’s a great coach and holds us accountable. He disciplines us when we mess up,” Green said.
