Ronald Myers had finished volunteering when he made a stop at the Circle K on Highway 59, according to the Louisiana Lottery Corporation.
While making change for a $100 bill, he purchased five quick picks for the drawing on Wednesday, April 9.
Myers had played for a long time and in the past would choose numbers by using his kids’ birthdays. This time, though, he was in a hurry, and the results paid off with a $2,445,468 million prize.
He waited until the next morning to tell his wife about the winning ticket.
“You’re not going to believe this,” he said.
She jokingly asked, “Did we win the Lotto?”
They both checked the winning ticket multiple times. The couple claimed their prize on Friday, April 25, in Baton Rouge at Lottery Headquarters.
After state and federal taxes, the husband and wife took home $1,785,196.02.
The winning numbers were 04-07-23-34-38-39.
Myers said along with paying it forward, he plans to invest the money back into his business.
The couple also plans to splurge on their upcoming Disneyland trip.
The store where Myers purchased the ticket will receive $24,454.68.
