Driver, pedestrian killed in separate Slidell-area crashes

SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — Two people are dead following separate crashes that happened in the Slidell area on Wednesday, April 30.

According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers with Troop L began investigating the first crash, which happened on Interstate 10 near the near US Highway 190 exit, around 8:30 p.m.

The initial investigation shows that that 30-year-old Tyler B. Israel, of Arabi, was driving a 2002 Toyota 4-Runner east on I-10 when he reportedly hit a 2025 Mazda CX 50 that was also heading east.

Troopers say Israel was unrestrained and pronounced dead on scene. The Mazda’s driver was properly restrained and uninjured. Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers for analysis in the ongoing investigation.

Troopers started investigating the second crash, which happened on the I-10 Twin Span Bridge between Ole Spanish Trail and Irish Bayou, around 9:45 p.m.

The initial investigation reportedly shows that a pedestrian entered the left lane of traffic on the interstate when at the same time, a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu was heading east on the same road. The pedestrian, whose name is withheld pending notification of next of kin, was hit and pronounced dead on scene.

Routine toxicology samples were taken from both the driver of the Malibu and the pedestrian as part of the continuing investigation.
