Scattered showers and rumbles for central Utah Wednesday afternoon and evening
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Wednesday, Utah! Scattered showers have been moving south across Utah along a frontal boundary. This boundary has been bringing scattered showers to northern Utah this morning,  but will expand south across central Utah to the I-70 corridor Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday evening.

As we mix in some daytime heating, a few rumbles of thunder could mix with the downpours in some locations near I-70 and the West Desert.

The front will stall across southern Utah on Thursday and Friday. This will keep the chances for afternoon scattered rain and storms around the areas south of I-70.

Calmer weather is expected for Thursday into Friday across northern Utah as high pressure builds in from the northwest briefly. Temperatures will climb into the upper 70s for highs along the Wasatch Front and into the mid-80s for SW Utah.

The break will not last for too long, though, as our next storm system and trough builds into the west coast on Saturday. A few isolated showers may pop across the Beehive state Saturday afternoon, but the system shifts east, bringing widespread rain showers, gusty winds, and even a few rumbles of thunder to the region by Sunday into Monday, and even Tuesday.

Some cooler air with this system may allow for some high mountain snow to also fall as the moisture continues to pivot through the state.
