Ahead of the deadline, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and AAA Mid-Atlantic are urging residents to obtain the enhanced identification card if they need or want one.
Beginning May 7, 2025, a REAL ID, a valid passport, or a military ID will be required for domestic air travel or to enter certain federal buildings. Those without a REAL ID will need a “federally-acceptable identification,” such as a valid passport or military ID.
According to AAA, a REAL ID is not necessary to drive, vote, apply for, or receive federal benefits to which you are entitled, visit the post office, access hospitals, or access Federal Courts.
