Man killed in early morning fire on Chicago’s South Side

CHICAGO — A 32-year-old man was killed in an apartment fire Wednesday morning on the city’s South Side.

The fire started around 2 a.m. in a three-story apartment building at 71st and South Rhodes Avenues in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.

Police said a man was recovered from a unit and transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

The Chicago Fire Department’s Office of Fire Investigation (OFI) has determined the cause to be  accidental due to unattended cooking.
