HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — The ashes of a former Mt. Carmel firefighter was allegedly stolen during a residential burglary.

Mount Carmel Mayor Joe Judge shared a message on social media from a family member of former firefighter Glen Markle Jr. regarding a home burglary.

According to the Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, Markle was a firefighter with the Mt. Carmel Fire Department for 40 years before retiring in 2020 and died in March 2021.

The family member claims Markle’s home was broken into, and one of the items that were taken included his ashes.

Due to the value of the items, the family member is asking for the its return “no questions asked.”

They say officials with the Mt. Carmel City Hall, Hope Fellowship Church and Short-Cunningham Funeral Home have agreed to receive the ashes anonymously and without consequence.
