Woman hit by train in Abilene, witnesses say she ran out of vehicle onto tracks

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) –A woman was hit by a train in Abilene Tuesday morning, and witnesses say she ran out of her vehicle onto the tracks.

The incident happened on the tracks near N 1st Street and Willis Street just before 10:30 a.m.

Witnesses told KTAB and KRBC this woman was driving the wrong way (westbound in the eastbound lanes) down N 1st Street when she pulled over into a business parking lot and ran out of her vehicle and onto the tracks, into the path of an oncoming train.

KTAB and KRBC did observe her body covered on the ground at the scene.

First responders say they are aware of this woman’s identity and need to notify her next of kin. She does have a known history of mental illness.
