We’re looking at summer-like conditions around Chicagoland on Monday to start the work week, with high temperatures soaring to around 80 degrees.
But a front will move through on the back end of that warm air, bringing the potential for severe weather during the overnight hours.
Early-morning temps Monday were already in the low to mid-50s, with winds increasing as the sun begins to rise.
Southerly winds will gust up to 35 or 40 miles per hour by the afternoon Monday as temps climb well above seasonal norms for the end of April.
Meanwhile, storms will begin to sweep through other parts of the Midwest on Monday as they make their way toward Chicagoland. But they’re not projected to reach our area until the overnight hours, between 1 and 4 a.m. Monday, so they could dissipate by the time they reach Chicagoland.

Still, the possibility for severe weather in Chicagoland does remain. For now, we’re under a Slight Risk for severe weather, with a Marginal Risk for most of Northwest Indiana:
We’ll keep an eye out as potential storms approach our area.

Looking Ahead
Tuesday will begin warm, with highs in the mid-70s and a chance for afternoon storms.
But northwest winds will set in by Tuesday afternoon, causing temps to crash down back into the 60s by late afternoon, then back into the upper 50s by Wednesday for the final day of April.
May looks to begin with light rain and highs in the mid- to low 60s on Thursday, which are pretty seasonal temps for the start of May.
Highs look to remain in the low 60s through Saturday, then we could see a bump back into the low 70s by Sunday in early forecast models for the weekend.
