Armed robberies in Garfield Park prompt police warning for residents

CHICAGO – Chicago police are warning residents of Garfield Park after a series of armed robberies over the last few days.

The incidents happened at the following times and locations:

  • 300 block of S. Whipple Ave on April 25, 2025, at 4:51 p.m. (Harrison)
  • 300 block of S. Whipple Ave on April 25, 2025, at 8:47 p.m. (Harrison)
  • 3000 block of W. Jackson St on April 26, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. (Harrison)
  • 300 block of S. Whipple Ave on April 27, 2025, at 4:52 p.m. (Harrison)

In one incident, two victims were robbed at gunpoint by three armed male suspects while they were moving furniture from a home to the inside of their vehicle. In another incident, the victim – a food delivery driver – was robbed as he sat inside of his car while awaiting his next delivery location. In a third incident, the victim – another food delivery driver – was robbed as he delivered food on the same block within a close timeframe. In the latest incident, the victim – a rideshare driver – was shot during an attempted carjacking, according to investigators.

Police described the suspects as one to three males between the ages of 16 and 20. They are about 5’6″ to 5’9″ and weigh between 130 and 170 pounds. During the incidents, they wore black face masks, black sweatshirts, black pants and black sneakers. One of the suspects also has a tattoo above his right eyebrow.

Additional tips from CPD:

  • Never confront the subject, or pursue a fleeing assailant.
  • Remember any unique physical characteristics of the offender (scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc.)
  • If video surveillance is available, save and make a copy of the incident for the investigating detectives.
  • If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information.
  • Dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible.
  • If you are a victim, please do not touch anything until police arrive.
