SALT LAKE CITY (
ABC4) — Happy Sunday, Utah! We started the weekend off on a gorgeous note weather-wise, but ending it on the cooler, soggier side.
A low pressure system is rolling in from the coast of Southern California and is set to impact the Beehive State by lunchtime today. We’ll first start seeing showers in the West Desert and higher terrain, then valleys from the Wasatch Front down to Cedar City will join in the afternoon. Much cooler temperatures will also be filling in with a good 10-15 degree drop. Daytime highs will top out in the mid 50s to low 60s for valleys, upper 40s to low 50s for higher terrain, and even the warm spots like St. George will stay in the mid 60s.
Similar conditions will exist on Monday with slightly cooler temperatures in the north and slightly warmer in the south, but still a few degrees below average. As the low pressure exits to the east, wraparound moisture will fill back into the state bringing a few more isolated showers.
This is a valley rain/mountain snow setup. Snow levels will generally stay around 6,500-7,000 feet, which would bring snow levels as low as mountain valleys like Park City. Mountain valleys will see more of a sloppy wintry mix with only a trace to 2 inches possible, but with how nice it’s been, the ground may be too warm for much to stick. Mountains will get about 2-5 inches while the Cottonwoods could get up to 7 inches. We can’t rule out a snowflake or two mixing in with the rain for Cache Valley or the Cedar City area.
We get a break from the rain on Tuesday and temperatures start to rebound, but we’ve got our eyes on another system that could sweep in with more isolated showers by Wednesday.
