“We’ve got a veteran club. We’ve got some guys that have been playing for a while. Guys that have been starting for three or four years for us so we feel confident in our ability to play, and it comes down to the guy that’s in the middle of the field. When our guys in the middle of the field and our pitching’s good, we’ve got a chance to win a lot games,” Lupo said.
Brother Martin has indeed stacked the win column. The Crusaders end the regular season on an eight-game heater, which is about a third of the team’s victories in a 25-6 overall record and 13-1 mark in district play, but consistency in preparation is why Brother Martin is the third overall seed in the Division I Select Bracket.
“Even in game two of series, their approach to the way the attacked pregame BP, to the way that even they got on the bus to go to the stadium in which we were playing, they were very business like. They knew what the task at hand was. They treated every game and every opponent with respect so that’s why they were able to have a lot of success,” the head coach continued.
Lupo is now seeking success beyond the quarterfinals. Two of Brother Martin’s last three postseason trips end in the third round, but with a lineup stacked with seniors, the Crusaders skipper knows his team’s success hinges on the four-year players.
“These are the guys that got us here. We’re not going to try and reinvent the wheel at this point. We have some good players who have been in some big stages before. We’ll rely on them for their leadership, their ability to play, and we’ll go as far as they take us.”
