IBERIA PARISH, La. (
KLFY) — Rainfall came down hard on Acadiana Thursday morning, especially in Iberia Parish.
“We got water literally all over Iberia Parish,” said Iberia Parish President Larry Richard.
I did a ride along with Iberia Parish President Richard who took us in the main areas where flooding took place. The spots he showed us are areas that continue to receive water when there’s heavy rainfall. Thursday morning was no different, as multiple inches of water covered land and even got into homes.
“By water not being able to go out is affecting Lafayette Parish, Vermilion Parish (and) Iberia Parish,” said Richard. “The water that they actually have in St. Martin Parish has no way to go because the water is not going out.”
Richard says they will continue to do what they can to hinder flooding, but living in South Louisiana makes that very difficult.
“I can tell you, we’ve been cleaning the channels, you know, with the channels of crest and ones that crest, and they have nowhere for the water to go,” he explained. “This is exactly what you’re going to see. It’s a bad situation for everyone involved.”
Richard advises anyone with flood damage to reach out to the Department of Homeland Security or call Iberia Parish Government at 337-365-8246 and they will get you in contact with them.
