According to a news release from the city of Carmel, the Carmel Street Department announced on April 3 that the city would provide free curbside pickup service for fallen limbs and other small storm debris to residents after the April 2 storm.
Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam issued a local emergency declaration after the tornado. According to previous reports, an EF1 tornado touched down in Carmel to the west of Rangeline Road in a series of storms on April 2 that impacted much of Central Indiana.
At the time, Carmel officials said there was no loss of life and one reported injury. There was reported damage to structures, trees and personal property along the storm’s path.
According to previous reports, the tornado started around West 96th Street and I-465 and traveled northeast, crossing U.S. 31 and heading across Keystone Parkway, East Main Street and the Hazel Dell Parkway.
If residents are still in need of pickup service, officials with the city of Carmel said that they should do the following steps:
- Place any tree debris next to the roadway and the city of Carmel’s Street Department will come by and remove it
- Ensure all debris is placed properly by the curb for easy pickup. When the debris is ready for pickup, individuals are asked to notify the department
- Residents in need of assistance because of age or medical conditions are asked to contact the department
- Residents whose homes were structurally damaged are asked to report it to the department so building inspectors from the city of Carmel can schedule an assessment.
Individuals are asked to email the department at street@carmel.in.gov or call (317) 733-2001 to contact the department directly.
