Former Mississippi teacher convicted on child porn charge

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A former high school science teacher from Booneville, Mississippi was convicted by a federal jury Wednesday for possessing child pornography.

Andrew Murphy, 36, faces up to ten years imprisonment, five years to life on supervised release, and registration on the sex offender registration.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi said evidence showed Murphy collected images of child nudity, child erotica, and images of children engaged in sexual activity, using a peer-to-peer network online.

The case was investigated and conducted by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office and the FBI.
