East-bound I-80 reopens after closure due to debris

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.

UPDATE 3:50 p.m.: Traffic has started moving again in east-bound lanes, and the road is reopened.

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — I-80 was closed in both directions near Holladay in Salt Lake County. West-bound lanes have reopened, but the Utah Department of Transportation says they are still working on reopening east-bound lanes.

Lt. Cameron Roden with Utah Highway Patrol told ABC4 that a semi truck lost a load of metal plates. While there was no crash, traffic had to be stopped so that UDOT can come in and remove them before they damage any vehicles.

According to a post from UDOT on X, they have cleared steel plates from west-bound lanes at this time. UHP says that they need to use a “front loader to remove them.”

On traffic cameras, UDOT vehicles can be seen enforcing the lane closure and working on cleaning up the road. There is no update on the clearance time right now.
