Attorney General Lynn Fitch (R-Miss.) said the case against Britton Butler was initiated from several Cybertips and was investigated and prosecuted by her office.
“My office will continue to hold those who exploit and prey on Mississippi’s children accountable,” said Fitch. “Together, we can make Mississippi a safer place for everyone. But we need your help. If you suspect a child is being exploited or abused, please report it to my office. Your tip could save a life.”
On April 16, Madison County Circuit Court Judge Dewey Arthur sentenced Butler to 40 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) with eight years to serve day for day without the possibility of parole and five years of supervised probation.
Butler was also ordered to pay $1,000 assessment to the Mississippi Children’s Trust Fund, a $1,000 assessment to the Mississippi Crime Victim Compensation Fund, $1000 to the Victims of Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation Fund. Butler will also have to register as a sex offender upon release.
If you have information about a child being sexually exploited online, you can report it to 1-800-843-5678. You can also make a report online at www.cybertipline.org.
