Suspect killed in officer-involved shooting at Baton Rouge motel

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Sunday morning at a local motel.

Around 3:04 a.m., officers responded to a disturbance call involving an armed male suspect at the Super 6 Inns and Suites on Gwenadele Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a 34-year-old male suspect in the motel parking lot. Police said that the suspect exchanged gunfire with responding officers. The suspect was hit during the gunfire and taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No officers were injured in the incident, police said.

As per BRPD protocol, the two officers involved in the shooting are now on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.

Investigators are actively investigating the case. More information will be released as it becomes available.
