Detective Tommie Brown, with the Jackson Police Department (JPD), said Kendrick Stubbs, 37, turned himself in on Thursday, April 17. He was charged with auto theft, false pretense and embezzlement of an auto.
Stubbs made his initial appearance in court on Friday, April 18, and he received a $30,000 bond.
Investigators said Stubbs contacted an individual on Facebook on March 12, 2025, and arranged to meet him for the purpose of purchasing a vehicle. During the transaction, Brown said Stubbs presented the victim with a counterfeit check. The victim did not know the check was fake until the following day.
Stubbs allegedly posted the vehicle on Facebook Marketplace and sold it to someone else on March 13, 2025. After the transaction was completed, Brown said Stubbs followed the second victim home and stole the vehicle back.
