Convicted felon accused of possessing, shooting illegal guns in Sheridan home

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A man faces multiple weapons charges after denying accusations that he had fired a gun within Sheridan city limits on Sunday, deputies say.

The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of 100 NW Richard Street following reports of several gunshots linked to a local resident. No arrests were made after the man denied shooting a gun.

That same evening, officials responded to the same area in response to a “911 hang-up call,” leading a police trooper to contact the same man. While speaking to him, the trooper said he noticed the man — a convicted felon — was carrying a concealed pistol, though the law prohibits him from owning any firearms.

The interaction turned into a brief standoff between the man and a group of deputies, but officials said it lasted only several minutes before they could make an arrest.

While searching the man’s home, investigators found a total of 17 firearms, with 16 that appeared to have been manufactured by Acuff “using various parts kits,” officials said.

Deputies also confiscated “hundreds of rounds of ammunition, multiple firearm accessories, and numerous unassembled gun components” as well as guns that were “staged throughout the residence.”

Investigators also said they found evidence that “several rounds had been discharged inside the home.”

The man is currently lodged at the Yamhill County Correctional Facility on a $500,000 bail.
